Indonesia's rattan business activity decrease drastically in this recently years. This caused by several factors such as the lack of supply of raw rattan from raw materials source to downstream industry, the quality and design of rattan products are not suitable with market demand, intense competition from other countries rattan producers such as China and Vietnam, the global economic crisis, lack of consumer awareness to use rattan products, etc.

Many activities has been undertaken by the government to support the improvement of the rattan industry in Indonesia. For example, by issuing several regulations such as Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) 35 in 2011 which set out about the terms and exporting rattan products, which basically sets ban on exports of raw rattan.
