The baseline survey was conducted with aim to provide initial information, description and analysis about the recent situation of value chain of rattan industry in Indonesia. This study is serving as underlying and guidelines for implementing further the PROSPECT activities. The study had covered overall subjects related to rattan industry such as raw rattan material distribution channel, the map of related stakeholders, production system, marketing aspect, financial aspect, profit distribution among actors in rattan industry value chain, regulation and policy.
This activity had been simultaneously conducted in four major areas from early February up to the end of March in 2013 by external surveryors. The study coverage areas was divided into four major areas: (1) Pidie, Aceh Besar and Banda Aceh in Aceh Province, (2) Katingan, Sampit and Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan Province; Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan Province, (3) Palu, Parigi, Sigi and Donggala in Central Sulawesi Province and (4) Cirebon and Majalengka in West Java Province; Bantul, Sukoharjo and Solo (Greater Solo or Central Java Province); Gresik, Sidoarjo, Surabaya and Mojokerto in East Java Province.
The external surveryors had managed to get direct information from wide range of actors across the value chains of rattan industry in Indonesia through interviews or secondary data collection.Those actors include rattan farmers, raw rattan traders, rattan farmers association, SMEs of rattan producers, rattan exporters, rattan workers, rattan crafters, suppliers of rattan supporting materials, rattan producers association, shipping companies, transportation companies, local and provincial leveld governments in forestry department, industry department, trade department, city office and custom of sea port.
The result of the baseline survey had been documented in the baseline survey report.
